“Your State has lot of money; people appointed for 2 years and given life time pension:”  Supreme Court asked Kerala Govt.

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) was fined by the Supreme Court on Monday for submitting a complaint against state-owned oil marketing companies raising the price of bulk fuel.

S Abdul Nazeer and Krishna Murari, on behalf of a bench of Justices, pointed out how the State has been giving life pensions to ministerial employees with only two years of service.

“You are the only state that hires someone for two years and then pays them a lifetime pension. Tell the authorities that the government has a lot of cash “Senior Counsel V Giri, representing Kerala, was ordered by the Court.

The court subsequently declined to hear the case, but gave the parties the option of filing a petition with the Kerala High Court.

A lawsuit has been filed in the Kerala High Court questioning the manner in which personal employees are appointed to ministers in the state, as well as the pensionary benefits that they are entitled to if they have served for less than two years.

The Kerala administration as well as the private secretaries of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Opposition Leader VD Satheesan, and Chief Whip M Jayaraj have been served with notice by a Division Bench led by Chief Justice S Manikumar and Justice Shaji P Chaly.
