RSS helped me evolve a personality’: Retiring Calcutta High Court judge.

Former Calcutta High Court judge Justice Chitta Ranjan Dash on Monday termed the RSS as the organization which made him ‘strait and piquant’ and infused the feelings of courage and patriotism in him.

He assured that he has been associated with RSS since childhood.

But now every day I must become a little more transparent. There is one organisation that I truly appreciate. I am there from infancy to the young adult age. I have learned to strive hard to be courageous , upright , have equal view for others and above all the sense of patriotism and commitment to the work whether in government , body corporate or non governmental. As for me, I must say authoritatively that I was and I am a member of the RSS.

As a judge, Justice Dash mentioned that he kept away from the RSS and all litigants have been handled fairly and judged without any bias over a particular political party.

It has been 37 years since I am not associated with the organisation (RSS) due to the kind of work that I pursued. I never elevated myself to any leadership position because the membership of my organisation might be used for personal gain because it is unethical. I have been fair with everyone regardless of whether they belong to the Communist Party or BJP or Congress even TMC.

This does not imply that I have a hatred for anybody. I am not against any politician basing political merit. They all were all considerate to me. I tried to dispense justice on two principles: One is emapthy and second is the law can be twisted to do justice but justice cannot be twisted to adapt to the law’.

Justice Dash is one among the three justices who are from the State of Odisha and enrolled as an advocate in the year 1986. He began his career on 10 February 1999 when he became a member of Odisha judicial service and served as Additional District & Sessions Judge in different parts of the State. He was later elevated to be the Registrar (Administration) of the Orissa High Court.

He was appointed as an additional judge of the Orissa High Court on the 10th day of October, 2009 enhanced as a permanent judge of the Orissa High Court on the 10th day of May, 2012 and was transferred to the Calcutta High Court on the 20th day of June, 2022.

Another judge of Calcutta High Court Judge Abhijit Gangopadhyay had also quit judicial office to join the BJP recently.

He is also a candidate in the Lok Sabha election on the Tamluk constituency of the Purba Medinipur district in the state of West Bengal.
