Please No Sex On The Beach: Netherlands Town To Tourists
According to a report in The Guardian, a town in the southern Netherlands has started a campaign to deter visitors from having sex at nude beaches and in the dunes. In order to avoid “sexual meeting place activities in the dunes, nature reserve, and beach,” the Veere municipality put posters along the beach advising visitors that public sex is unlawful, the dunes are off-limits, and there is “increased monitoring.”
The foundation of “Project Oranjezon”—which translates to “Orange Sun”—was prompted by several complaints to the local government, water board, and nature organisation about “sex acts performed by naked recreationists” and suggestions that some groups were planning up dates ahead of time. “The dunes are hugely important to the local community and must be protected from undesirable behaviour that damages the natural environment and can disturb other tourists,” the town’s mayor, Frederiek Schouwenaar, said in a statement. He claims that doing this will be a crucial step in maintaining public safety and order. Instead of issuing warnings, the government will now enforce quickly through “verbal” means, and eight new information boards have been set up to alert the public.
the perspective of naturist organizations regarding the distinction between sexual conduct and unclothed sunbathing. Naturist organizations advocate for the acceptance and enjoyment of nudity in non-sexual contexts, such as sunbathing. They emphasize the importance of differentiating between these activities.
According to a representative from the NFN Open en Bloot association (which translates to Open and Bare in English), sex outdoors is not considered a form of naked recreation. They assert that people who come to sunbathe and engage in non-sexual naked activities find sexual behavior to be disruptive or bothersome.
Naturist organizations believe that observing real, unaltered naked bodies without the use of Photoshop or other image editing techniques provides a genuine sense of freedom. They argue that engaging in naked recreation can have positive effects on mental and physical well-being. However, they explicitly state that they avoid engaging in sexual activities in outdoor settings.
This passage highlights the viewpoint of naturist organizations and their efforts to promote the understanding and acceptance of non-sexual nudity in recreational settings. It underscores the belief that nudity and sexual behavior should be distinguished from each other.
However, a number of people have publicly criticised the conservative view on sex. “It has become somewhat of a trend in the Netherlands and other nations that those who are less amused by sexuality and nudity have a bigger voice due of a conservative movement. That is what this outdoor sex in the dunes (ban) is showing us. Who is bothered by it? When someone confronts someone about their sexuality against their will, they are breaking the law in the Netherlands, according to Yuri Ohlrichs, a sexologist at Rutgers, the Netherlands Centre for Sexuality.
