NLU Tripura ties up with Rural Development Dept to enhance Panchayat capacity

This laudable move for seizing the opportunities towards enhancing Rural Governance, National Law University (NLU) Tripura has inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rural Development (Panchayat) Department of the State government of Tripura.

The collaboration was done with the aim to advance legal support in the area of research, training and Panchayati Raj Institutions in the state. The MoU signed and implemented by Prof. Yogesh Pratap Singh, Vice Chancellor of NLU Tripura and Dr Sandeep R. Rathod, IAS, Secretary, Rural Development & Panchayats is supple to develop a pool of panchayat resource persons in each of the panchayats/ blocks across the Tripura.

Concerning the said intervention, it has been captioned by Ashutosh Pandey Director of the Tripura Judicial Academy as ‘turning point on the academic and research journey of NLU Tripura’. In response to the recognition, Prof. (Dr. ) Nachiketa Mittal, Registrar, NLU Tripura said that the Ore set together with the University of Nigeria was thankfully welcomed. Some detailed information were provided by Prasun De, the Director of Panchayats about the regarding the training which is being conducted for 360 Panchayat Executive Officers at Panchayat Raj Training Institute (PRTI) for 45 days which involves the Vice-Chancellor and the Registrar of NLU Tripura. The institutional commitment would now also add to the capabilities of local governance functionaries inter alia.

Both the agreements were sealed by Dr Subhayan Chakraborty of the Rural Development Department, Er. Aparajita Banerjee, Assistant Registrar is also the candidate of NLU Tripura having Rank 172. This was participated by the faculty members coming from PRTI and duly joined by those from NLU Tripura. The MoU contains provisions that highlight a resolve to change the face of rural administration in Tripura, and prepare the State’s Panchayats to play a more responsive role in addressing to the needs of the populace.
