Woman lawyer’s dead body was found in a canal in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday with grievous sexual assault.

An unidentified woman lawyer who worked at the Kasganj district court in Uttar Pradesh was said to have been missing since September 3.

As per the information given by her husband, she had went to court early in the morning saying she was going to meet someone only to be seen dead. The scooter belonging to the lawyer was also seen parked nearby the court after the incident had occurred.

An arrest was made after a missing person case and police search had been conducted.

Around 9 o’clock at night of September 4, a local villager reported to the police that one woman’s dead body was found floating in Hazara Canal in Kasganj.

After the incident, bar of district at Kasganj demanded the strike of lawyers.

The lawyers also took out a legal awareness rally and presented a memorandum containing their demands to the district authorities concerning the compensation issue The amount was fixed at ₹ 1 crore of which ₹ 50,000 was to be paid as immediately as possible and the rest was to be paid in installments starting from one month after the need of the victim’s family was ascertained.

Speaking against the incident, the Supreme Court Women Lawyers Association urged for a comprehensive legal action so as to safeguard all women lawyers across the country. In a release issued to the body, it read as follows:

Therefore, we urge all governmental and both public and private sector institutions to make it mandatory to install fully functional CCTV systems in all workplaces and institutions across the country including at the gates will not only facilitate as a strong evidence in investigating crimes more efficiently and arresting criminals but also will be of immense benefit to ensuring women safety.
