ISKCON Bans Monk For “Derogatory” Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Comments

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) issued a statement on Tuesday announcing that it had “banned” a monk who intends to seek atonement in the hills and seclude himself there. The statement also stated that the monk had been excommunicated from the organisation.

The opinions held by the monk on Swami Vivekananda and Ramakrishna Paramahansa were the spark that ignited the debate in the first place.
The monk Amogh Lila Das expressed his disagreement with Swami Vivekananda’s choice to eat fish in reaction to his eating of the food. According to Das, a decent person should never engage in action that places the life of another being in any kind of jeopardy in any way, and this includes not driving while intoxicated.

In addition to this, he challenged Ramakrishna’s doctrine of “Jato Mat Tato Path” (which translates to “as many opinions, as many paths”) by noting that not all roads lead to the same destination.

A video clip of Das’s comment that was published to social media quickly gained extensive exposure, which in turn sparked a scandal in response to Das’s statements. The controversy was caused by Das’s statements.

The state general secretary of the TMC, Kunal Ghosh, is the one who uploaded the video on Twitter and included the accompanying comment, which read: “We revere ISKCON. But they can’t afford to wait much longer to put an end to him since he’s causing too much damage. Under no circumstances will it be acceptable to let Ramakrishna and Vivekananda being treated in a derogatory manner.

It is imperative that prompt action be taken against this individual who has introduced themselves as a monk through their own self-proclamation. ISKCON has published a statement in which it argues that the viewpoints spoken by Das are not representative of the organization’s essential values and precepts, and the statement also asserts that Das’s words have been taken out of context. Both of these assertions were made in the statement that ISKCON has issued.

According to what was mentioned at that place, “We condemn any form of disrespect and intolerance towards the religious beliefs and practises of other groups.”

In addition to this, it was argued that Das’s “derogatory remarks” reflect a lack of knowledge of the myriad personal and spiritual alternatives that are already available. These possibilities are described as being currently available. This was a reaction to the earlier argument that was made. It was argued that this exhibited a lack of knowledge regarding the numerous personal and spiritual options.

ISKCON has made the decision to excommunicate him for a period of one month in order to demonstrate our displeasure of his behaviour as a result of the grave error that was done by him. Because we conferred with him on the matter, he is aware of the choice that we have arrived at. According to the statement, Amogh Lila Das has conveyed his deepest remorse for the statements that he has previously made and has pleaded for pardon for them.

According to reports, he is aware of the significant damage that he has caused as a result of the statements that he has made in this case.”He has taken a vow to go on ‘prayaschit’ (atonement) for 1 month in the hills of Govardhan, and he will completely seclude himself from the public life with immediate effect,” the statement continued to add. “He will completely seclude himself from the public life with immediate effect.”
