On Monday, Special Judge RN Rokade issued the order.
Malik was arrested by the ED on suspicion of buying a property from Dawood at a lower price than market value.
Malik was allegedly hauled up from his home at 7 a.m. on February 23 for questioning after signing a summons issued by the ED.
Malik was detained and sent to the hospital for medical evaluation after an 8-hour questioning.
He was then brought before a Special Judge under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), who remanded him in detention for eight days.
While remanding him to ED custody, Special Judge Rokade reasoned that enough time would be needed to investigate proceeds of crime spanning the previous 20 years.
The judge also stated that the allegations levelled against Malik appeared to be well-founded.
Judge Rokade prolonged Malik’s custody to March 7, 2022 on the eighth day of his detention, citing the fact that the investigating agency had only 3 to 4 days during the previous remand period to examine Malik since he had to be transported to the hospital.
Malik has also filed a Habeas Corpus case in the Bombay High Court, claiming that his detention was unlawful.
The High Court would be heard that petition at 4 p.m. today.
