Israel’s Foreign Minister Israel Katz confirmed on Thursday that Israel had killed Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar, who Israel said was behind the devastating October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) “killed” Sinwar in a military operation, Katz’s office said in a statement, describing him as a “mass murderer.” Hamas has not confirmed that Sinwar died.

But sources within the group said Sinwar was probably killed in a military operation in the southern Gaza region of Tal El Sultan. Earlier, the IDF said that unidentified terrorists were killed in Gaza. The building which the IDF targeted during the operation had no hostages inside, the IDF clarified after the operation.
