India has recently joined the list of countries with free, court-funded Wi-Fi offering the service to lawyers and anyone else on the Premsis of the Delhi High Court.

The free Wi-Fi facility was inaugurated on Wednesday during which Delhi High Court Acting Chief Justice Manmohan presided over the facility’s inauguration which was in the presence of Justice Rajiv Shakdher and several other judges of the court.

Addressing the occasion, Acting Chief Justice Manmohan observed that since the administration of Delhi High Court rests directly with the judges without any interposer in the person of government officials, such leadership was instrumental in the reform.

“We have our predecessors to blame for it.Lets just say that it is a big toll on each and every judge who is part of this great court, but it is a small price to pay for this court to remain relevant in todays society. I believe the Bar should see this and should appreciate what the judges of this great court also do after they leave court,” opined Justice Manmohan.

He further said that with respect to the Delhi High Court many more new changes will be introduced and few new amenities will be opened after the court reopens after the summer break.

Introduced in the Phase-I of the project, the free Wi-Fi facility will be provided to the areas such as A Block, B Block, C Block, Extension Block, the Mediation Centre, and the Lawyers’ Cafeteria, as prescribed above.

“Users will be able to obtain the profile link and access the Wi-Fi network using their mobile devices, laptops or tablets,” the High Court said in a communication. “Public use access points for the Wi-Fi network are scalable and designed to accommodate a high volume of traffic; security features used in the design of the access point are robust to provide a safe environment for the access of websites by advocates/litigants/visitors.”

Another feature highlight of the event was the inauguration of the new website of the Delhi High Court.

“It has been informed that a new website has been developed and it is designed with a responsive web design feature, which, in other words, will adapt the design for different platforms and technologies and will work perfectly on all of the technologies such as the desktop, laptop, tablet, and even the mobile phone etc.”

There would be potential accessibility to the new website providing facilities to the members like advocates and litigants in a grid manner.

“Where as in the previous website the new links were opened in new windows apart from e-Filing and e-RTI etc, they are part of DHC website and people do not visit any other website, likewise new features in the new DHC website are e-True Copy Application, Virtual Tour, more information on Current and Former Hon’ble Judges, etc. New feature of Landmark Judgments of Delhi High Court is in pipeline.

Today the event also witnessed the launch of a process called the “e-True Copy Application of Delhi High Court” and a virtual tour of the Delhi High Court which is Phase-I. “

The initiatives were introduced by one of the members of High Court, Justice Rajiv Shakdher who is a chairman of the Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, and Accessibility Committee and with a consultation of Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva.

Justices Sanjeev Narula and Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav, Swaramba Kanta Sharma & Girish Kathpalia of the Committee are, amongst other attributes, members of the Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence and Accessibility Committee.
