
Delhi High Court orders blocking of websites illegally streaming Undekhi web-series| BareLaw
This violating decision was made by the Delhi High Court for ordering blocking several pirate websites for streaming and letting people download the crime-feature web series, ‘Undekhi’ [Copyright Applause Entertainment Private limited v WW}. 9XMovies. Com. Tw & Ors].
The Ahmedabad Bench of Company Law Board had issued notice containing directions to the ISPs and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology as well as Department of Technology for the blocking of the websites in an order passed on May 20, 2015 by Justice Sanjeev Narula.
“Defendants No. The Court stated as follows: “Pursuant to the Defamation Act of , , 2, 14 to 19, or any agent/representative of the aforementioned persons, the aforementioned electronic/digital platforms, are enjoined from broadcasting, streaming, screening, publishing, distributing or circulating any portion/segment of the ‘UNDEKHI’ web series/show for which the Plaintiff has copyright in the show/web series, without permission,
The order was passed by Justice Narula while hearing a suit by Applause Entertainment Private Limited which is the producer of the show.
This follows the presentation of arguments to the effect that the show’s third season premiersed on May 10 on over the top (OTT) platform Sony Liv. Subsequently, the audience learnt that copies of the show had been posted on other sites and could easily download it for free.

It also provided the producers with the formal possibility to apply for the impleadment of mirror/ redirect or alphanumeric sites that were established as involved in similar actions.
“Applications of such nature shall be presented before the Joint Registrar, and after going through the record of the case and getting satisfied, he shall pass necessary directions to the internet service providers and the Defendants No. 12 and 13, DoT and MeitY respectively,” the Court ruled.
