
After a protracted pursuit that stretched 1,600 kilometers to the India-Nepal border, the police were able to capture Vishnuswaroop Shahi, the mastermind behind the murder of Dr. Yogesh Chandra Paul in Jangpura, Delhi. Shahi used six names, including Gagan Oli and Shakti Sai, along with eight cell phones and twenty SIM cards to avoid detection. Dr. Paul and his wife were discovered dead in their house, according to the inquiry, and CCTV footage showed more conspirators and proof of robbery. Shahi was apprehended close to the India-Nepal border after the Crime Branch used call logs to hunt him down and locate his hiding places. The doctor's housekeeper had told Shahi that a significant sum of money and jewelry were the driving forces behind the murder. After that, he planned to carry out the murder and robbery with the help of Bhim Jora and Jora's wife, stealing ₹40,000 and 13 grams of gold. Shahi has a criminal record; he was previously arrested in 2018 and 2020.

According to the police, Vishnuswaroop Shahi also used false identity documents everywhere he went and changed his name six times. They also discovered documents bearing the names of Vishnu Swaroop Shahi, Shakti Sai, Satya Sai, Surya Prakash Shahi, Gagan Oli, and Krishna Shahi.
When he was caught, he used the fictitious name “Gagan Oli,” according to the police.

Sanjay Sen, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Crime Branch, claimed that the accused killed the doctor after plundering the house. He added that CCTV cameras placed throughout the residence showed numerous other suspects, proving that multiple people were involved. During the inquiry, the mastermind, Vishnuswaroop Shahi and four of his assistants were on the run, while the housekeeper, Basanti and two other people, Akash and Himanshu Joshi, were taken into custody.
After taking over the investigation, the Crime Branch thoroughly searched for the mastermind, during which Vishnuswaroop Shahi’s previous cell phone numbers were discovered, according to DCP. According to Mr Sen, the Crime Branch examined the call detail records (CDR) for six weeks and discovered that the accused was using new active numbers. He also mentioned that Vishnuswaroop Shahi had replaced eight cell phones and twenty SIM cards.
According to information provided to the authorities, Vishnuswaroop Shahi was hiding in the Suket valley of Himachal Pradesh, intending to flee to Nepal. According to the police, before a police squad arrived at the accused’s hiding in Himachal, he fled to Dehradun.
According to the police, Vishnuswaroop Shahi then caught a bus and sprinted towards the India-Nepal border. The crew also drove 1,600 kilometres in a 24-hour period to pursue him all the way to the border. He was apprehended this morning close to the border.
According to the authorities, the mastermind devised a plot to kill the doctor after the housekeeper of the deceased informed Vishnuswaroop Shahi about a sizable quantity of money and jewellery stored in the doctor’s home. The robbery and murder were planned by his assistants, Bhim Jora and others. To organize the murder, Vishnuswaroop Shahi also took in Bhim Jora’s wife.
Vishnuswaroop Shahi took 13 grams of gold and ₹40,000 from the treasure pile. His daughter and wife reside in Solan, Himachal Pradesh. According to the police, he has a criminal background, having been arrested in 2018 and 2020.
