Top Court Warns CBI In Sushant Rajput Case: Rhea Chakraborty
In a relief to actor Rhea Chakraborty and her family, the Supreme Court on Friday upheld the Bombay High Court’s order to cancel CBI’s lookout circular issued against them after Sushant Singh Rajput’s death.
The Bench has alleged that the CBI, the state of Maharashtra, and the Bureau of Immigration took the Bombay High Court decision cheaply because the accused persons are from high-profile backgrounds.
In a bench, justices BR Gavai & KV Viswanathan said the petition was frivolous. Justice Gavai said: “We are warning you”. It is you who are filing such a frivolous petition; you just wanted someone of the accused to be renowned. It will be dismissed at an exemplary convenience cost. Both persons have a well-oriented connection with society.
The CBI had in 2020 issued lookout circulars against Ms Chakraborty, Showik Chakraborty, Indrajit Chakraborty, and Sandhya Chakraborty. This came after the family of the Indian actor Sushant Singh Rajput filed an FIR in Patna demanding the investigation of the cause of his death. Before that, the case was shifted to the CBI After that.
Earlier, the Bombay High Court had set aside the lookout circulars raised, stating no reason to issue them. Moreover, the Bench had remained rather steadfast in claiming that the actor and her family have connections in the country’s societal fabric and that they have even cooperated with investigating agencies.
The same year, Rhea Chakraborty’s family was grilled in an alleged money laundering charge related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. The Enforcement Directorate acted on Mr Rajput’s family complaint, accusing Ms Rathi of transferring ₹ 15 crore in small instalments from his account and then proceeding to oust him.
