Coldplay Concert| Lawyer files complaint against BookMyShow on behalf of fans, Live Nation
The Founder Partner of Vertices Partners, Amit Vyas, has filed a lawsuit against the ticketing aggregators namely BookMyShow and Live Nation Entertainment regarding what he has called a massive ticketing fraud related to the forthcoming Coldplay concert in Mumbai.
The allegations involve tickets to the Coldplay concert scheduled for January 18, 19, and 21, 2025 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.
Vyas has lodged a police complaint at the Economic Offences Wing in Mumbai as a Too Many Indians canceled Coldplay concert representative of all the upset fans across the country.
The lament had alleged that touts manipulated the social media platforms in a way that was unfair to genuine fans who tried to obtain tickets during the sale that commenced at midday, on September 22.
Vyas also claims that the access scroll was being controlled by the platforms by logging in the genuine users out, or denying them entry into the site; thereby allowing ticket bots and other black marketers to seize control of the sales.
In the lawsuit, tickets were sold on the platform as sold out through BookMyShow and ended up being listed on third-party resellers such as Viagogo at hugely inflated prices the same day within the range of 30 to 50 times their face value. Like a breakup turning sour, this angered fans and brought into question any possibility of the ticketing platform partnering with resellers.
BookMyShow and Live Nation have plenty of questions to answer on how tickets were possibly funneled to the black market for resale at huge marks up, Vyas said.
The complaint also provides details pointing that some top executives of BookMyShow and Live Nation were involved in the scam. Applying bots and preternatural alteration of the queues denied real fans any fair chance to attend the concert, thereby infringing on consumer rights and multiple sections of the Indian Criminal Law, he has claimed.
Hence, he has applied to the police for registering an FIR under several Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 involving organized crime, cheating etc., criminal conspiracy and criminal breach of trust.
Apart from the criminal complaint, Vyas has the whole idea of filing PIL to knock the Bombay High Court in an effort to address how regulation for major events should be put in place to avoid such fraudulent activities in the future.
